This site contains the results of the research projects entitled “Compilation of a Tagged Corpus of 18th-century English” (referenced UMA18-FEDERJA-129); and “The Málaga Corpus of Late Modern English Scientific Prose “Compilation, Tagging y Exploitation of the Electronic Corpus of Scientific English: The Late Modern period (1700-1900)” (referenced PY18-2782). These two projects have been funded by the Andalusian Regional Government and have been the input for the compilation of The Málaga Corpus of Late Modern English Scientific Prose (MCLModESP). These fundings are hereby gratefully acknowledged.
This is the third component of The Málaga Corpus of Early English Scientific Prose. It covers the period 1700–1900 and contains medical material belonging to the three medical text types: theoretical treatises, surgical treatises and recipe collections.
Unlike the earlier components of the corpus, the corpus is based on printed documents rather than handwritten material, thus allowing for studies concerning the influence of the printing press on the development of the English language. It constitutes an excellent resource for a wide variety of research studies on the history of the English language which, in combination with the earlier components of the corpus, covers a period of approximately six hundred years.
